Jack is career military. He joined the U.S. Air Force academy out of High School. He went on to become highly recognized and distinguished throughout his military career, earning numerous honors and medals.

Sometime in the 1980s, he was sent in on an “unofficial mission” over the boarders of Iraq. His 'chute opened late causing him to break both his legs and probably a few other bones. It was during this mission he got left behind by his unit. He was captured and imprisoned for four months, until he was able to free himself and escape. After that, he vowed never to leave anyone from his own command behind.

A few years later, his son accidentally shot himself with Jack's personal weapon. This devastated the man. Because of that, he was willing to take on an apparent suicide mission for the U.S. Air Force; by that time he had achieved the rank of Colonel in the U.S. Air force. That mission was his first step through the Stargate. Along with Dr. Daniel Jackson, the person who deciphered the 'gate and got it to work, as well as a hand picked team of soldiers. The planet the arrived on was called Abydos. His mission was to assess the threat to earth and if found, send the rest of the team back through the Stargate then stay behind to detonate a nuclear bomb to destroy the 'gate.

Things didn't go entirely as planned when an alien posing as the god Ra showed up in a space ship. Long story short, during that mission with the urging of both Daniel Jackson and his own sympathy for the children of the planet especially a boy named Skaara, did Jack disregard his orders in order to save Abydos from Ra. Using the nuke to take out both Ra and his ship. Daniel decided to remain behind on the planet while Jack and the remaining members of his team returned to earth. Jack then was not entirely truthful in his report upon his return home. He reported that both Ra and the Abydos Stargate was destroyed and Daniel Jackson killed.

A year later, Jack is called out of retirement after hostile aliens came through the Stargate. He soon has to admit that his report was not entirely accurate. Deciding to speak up when told they were going to send another bomb to Abydos. He was then charged with a new mission of going back to retrieve Daniel. He was joined on this mission by the surviving members of the first as well as a Capt. Samantha Carter.

Upon returning to the planet to a warm welcome, Daniel informed them that the Stargate went to other worlds and not just to Abydos. While Daniel took Jack and the others to show them the list of addresses he found, their camp was attacked. Daniel's wife, Sha're and Skaara abducted by the same aliens that came to earth. Luckily, one of Jack's team saw the Stargate address.

After returning to earth, before it was decided what to do. Jack and Daniel renewed their friendship with the mutual bond of having lost someone close to them. They both vowed to do what it took to get them back.

On the next mission, it's learned that both Daniel's wife and Skaara were taken as host by a parasitic race known as the Goa'uld. The same alien race that spawned Ra. They pose as gods to enslave and use humans for their own needs. In short, the Goa'uld are a megalomaniac evil race. The Goa'uld responsible was called Aphopis. Sha're became host to Amunet, Aphopis' mate. During that mission
Jack was able to recruit Teal'c; the First Prime of Aphopis... something like a second-in-command. Teal'c joined forces with them in hopes to one day free his people from servitude.

Soon after they all return to earth they form a unit called SG-1, comprised from Colonel O'Neill, Dr. Jackson, Carter and Teal'c, under the command of the SGC(Stargate Command). They are charged with the mission going through the Stargate to seek out new technology and allies to aid in the fight against the Goa'uld and other hostile alien races. Through their many missions together they have formed a strong bond together, becoming something of a surrogate family for each other.

About another year after the start of the SGC, Daniel had a bit of a mishap with an alternate reality but he was able to return with information about an impending Goa'uld attack on earth; specifically a Stargate address. Unfortunately, the politics at the time decided that the SGC would be shut down. Jack along with the rest of SG-1 decided to disregard their orders and went through the Stargate to the address Daniel brought back. They soon discovered that that address lead to a Spaceship. Aphopis' mothership which was now on route to earth. While on board they confronted the Skaara while being possessed by the Goa'uld Klorel. Jack was forced to shoot Klorel/Skaara before they killed Daniel. The team was then captured and Klorel/Skaara was taken to be healed the sarcophagus.

With the help of some rebel Jaffa, SG-1 escaped and continued with their plan to destroy the ship. As well as destroying a second mothership by knocking out its shields. Unfortunately, was hit covering their retreat to the second ship to take out its shields. They were forced to leave Daniel behind.

The rest of SG-1 was able to escape the motherships by stealing a pair of Death Gliders. On their return to earth they found that Daniel had manged to used the sarcophagus to heal himself and escape via the Stargate.

During one of their early missions Jack had the “Repository of the Ancients” downloaded into his brain. His brain was barely able to cope with the scope of the knowledge as it started to overwrite his own. Before it could kill him under the strain, he was able to use the knowledge to contact an alien race called the Asgard. The Asgard were able to help him by erasing the knowledge from his mind, thus saving his life. Among the Asgard, Jack quickly became a legend and hailed as a significant step forward for the human race. The Asgard refer to him as the most advanced human they have ever come across. They even named a battle ship after him, short lived as it was.

Later the Asgard contacted earth via Jack to inform them they were going to add earth to the Protected Planets Treaty their race had with the Goa'uld System Lords. The System Lords being the most powerful Goa'uld in charge of keeping peace between the lesser Goa'uld and general protection of the Goa'uld interests.

The Asgard, Thor beamed Jack aboard his ship when it became infested by the Asgard's enemy, the Replicators. The Replicators had hi-jacked his ship and planned to take over earth. Thor believed Jack was the only human up for the task of destroying his ship before the Replicators had a chance to land and take over. Thor was badly injured and left Jack instructions to the run the ship. Which... is a lot like leaving a child with keys to the car... but anyway. With the help of the now Major Carter and Teal'c they were able to come up with a way to destroy the ship.

They went on to fight new battles against both Goa'uld and the Replicators. Another such battle happened after SG-1... well, Carter destroyed a sun to destroy most of Apohis' fleet that orbited around a Tok'ra home world(after the Tok'ra had abandoned the base of course.). The Tok'ra are another race of symbiotes that were fundamentally opposed to the Goa'uld and have a tenuous alliance with the SGC and the people of earth. The resulting shock-wave thrust their ship and Aphopis' remaining mothership across the galaxy. Where they then had to face both Replicators and a now brain-washed Teal'c. Eventually, the good guys won... that's SG-1 by the way.

Six years after that first mission, Daniel Jackson was exposed to radiation while saving an alien planet. On his death bed, Daniel was able to communicate with Jack and express his desire to die so that he could ascend to a higher plane of existence. It took time for Jack to be convinced. By this time Daniel had become Jack's best friend and not someone he wanted to lose. However, finally he respected Daniel's wishes and let him die. It was a blow for Jack, nearly as bad as losing his own son again.
The team was able to continue on with their work, finally gaining a new team member. Though Daniel was sorely missed.

They went on to face a new enemy, Anubis. A shadowy figure presumed dead by the System Lords. He slowly built up power to become a new force on the verge of destroying the System Lords and taking over the entire galaxy.

Later Jack was infected with a incurable virus. He was presented with an alternative, to become a host to a Tok'ra. They offered to use their natural regenerative powers to save Jack and once healed the Tok'ra Kanan was to leave Jack's body for another host. However, things did not go as planned. Kanan embarked on the rescue of a girlfriend left behind with the Goa'uld Ba'al. This too didn't go as planned, Kanan died while Jack was captured by Ba'al. He was then tortured to death repetitively for information. Daniel appeared to him in this time, whom Jack thought was a hallucination. Daniel offered Jack ascension but Jack refused, instead challenging Daniel to use his powers to help him escape. Rules of the ascended prevented him from helping but eventually Daniel found a way to help in his own way. With that Jack was able to escape and SG-1 was able to come to his rescue.

Further unfortunate events passed leading to the destruction of Abydos at the hands of Anubis. Most were able to ascend with the help of Oma Desla, the same being that helped Daniel ascend. Before the complete destruction of the planet the ascended Daniel told Jack and the rest of SG-1 of a powerful place called The Lost City they needed to find. It supposedly would have all they'd need to defeat Anubis.

In an attempt to find The Lost City, SG-1 happened upon a descended Daniel with no memories of his past. He had broken the rules of the ascended beings and in order to escape the wraith of the others, Oma returned him to his human form. Eventually his memories returned and he rejoined SG-1 and Jack regained his old friend.

While still in search of The Lost City. Jack allowed the Depository of the Ancients to be downloaded into his brain again. Using that knowledge he was able to find the means to defeat Anubis' fleet poised to attack earth by using an Ancient Outpost hidden on earth. After that Jack froze himself in hopes they could contact the Asgard later to revive and cure him.

When the Asgard are finally contacted it is found out that they need Jack's help as much as he needs theirs. Jack's consciousness was uploaded into Thor's ship(The Daniel Jackson), then using the Ancient's knowledge again, he was able to devise a weapon to help defeat the Asgard's enemy, the Replicators. The Ancient's knowledge was once again removed from his mind. Jack was then revived on the ship. He soon found out that Carter was being held on the planet by the Replicators. He, Daniel and Teal'c then beamed down to the planet to both fight the Replicators and save Carter. After defeating them and finding Carter, the group returned to Earth.

Not long after that, Jack was promoted to Brigadier General and put in charge of the SGC. Though reluctant to leave the 'action' of SG-1 he did eventually take the job. He did still see some action though. Due to the “Ancient Gene,” his help was required to activate technology of the ancients. It was on one of these missions Jack is taken from. Specifically, season 8 – end of episode It's Good To Be King. When he stepped back into the Stargate to return home.

Ω PERSONALITY Ω

Much of Jack's life was shaped by pain and loss but he's used humor to help buffer that pain. His greatest pain was the lost of his son, who accidentally shot himself with Jack's personal gun. That marked the darkest part of Jack's life it wasn't until after the events of the first Abydos mission, he took a turn toward the more humorous side of his nature. He made a conscious decision to make the most of his life from then on. That said, he's never completely forgave himself for the death of his son.
He is irreverent toward authority... well, irreverent toward everything, but mostly authority. One of the core aspects of his personality is his “leave no one behind” philosophy. This sometimes make him brave to the point of stupidity. He'll do whatever it takes to get his people, his friends, his loved ones, safe and more importantly, free. His leadership skills come from a “lead by example” out look. He'd never ask anyone under his command to do anything he wasn't prepared to do himself. He can also be a bit short-tempered but that is usually in the face of pressure and great odds against him.
Jack is very intelligent, but chooses come off dumber than he is. In many ways this works to his advantage, causing his enemies to underestimate him.

Gaomon personality mirrors Jack's own to extent. Primarily it holds all the same virtues as Jack but tries to act as a voice of reason to Jack's first instinct.
Gaomon very slow to anger and very patient. Yet at the same time a skilled fighter. He knows only the basics about the human world but is very eager to learn. He's very interested in the sports of the human world such as baseball and hockey. He has an odd sense of deadpan humor that makes it hard to tell if he's telling a joke or not.
